Based on a novel by
Elmore Leonard. Two thumbs up for this rickly riff on
Hollywood pretension in which John Travolta plays Chili
Palmer, an affable gangster who suddenly finds himself a
Hollywood player. Much of the film takes place in
restaurants--many actual "industry" hot-spots where deals
are made and power relations made clear. Amid the cast of
characters Palmer encounters is Martin Weir (DeVito), an
A-list actor who, over lunch, throws his weight around by
ordering for the table and off the menu, only to leave just
as the specially prepared carb-free, fat-free,
delicious-free meal arrives.
